the tower of the bay bridge and repair begins today. we are talking about the western span of the bridge, the eastern most tower closest to treasure island, the fender of the tower. it is designed to protect the tower. that is what it does. repair to the fender is going to be costly. the metropolitan transportation committee estimates we are looking at $2 million or $3 million. it is expensive because it is hard to access. the building materials that are used include steel and recycles plastic. repairs are expected to take about 4 1/2 months. the money is in reserve for the repairs. they also do intend to go after the tanker owner who try and recoup some of the funds. the tanker long since left on a friday the 11th and was able

>> neighbors are calling a young man a hero after he helped save the lives of five people during an apartment fire. terrified residents jumped from windows to escape. but trevor caught two children and their mother who jumped from a second-story window. he brought a ladder to a neighboring apartment so those resident could climb out of the windows. the fire started in a carport causing $1 million in damage.
